BRAZIL - MANTIQUEIRA DE MINAS - FAZENDA ENGENHO

The new harvest has arrived!José Victor Bernardes and Maria Célia Chaib Sousa Bernardes are the owners of the Fazenda do Engenho, a legacy of the family of Maria Célia, which is located in the town of Carmo de Minas, Minas Gerais.

Coffee cultivation began on the property in the 1930s. In the late 1980s, José Victor and Maria Célia married and José Vitor began managing the operation. In the early 1990s, José Vitor continued to plant new fields with the Yellow Catuaí and Acaia varieties at altitudes of 1100 to 1200 meters.

Shortly after the turn of the millennium, a new phase began in the region, characterized by property improvements, on which several technological advances were implemented, such as: paved patios, dryers, washers, hullers, rest boxes, processing machines, in which batches are dried, placed in rest boxes, and processed.
The reward for this pioneering spirit and the work to differentiate the production of specialty coffees was the award of the geographical indication Mantiqueira de Minas, which guarantees the origin of the coffee lots.

The batches are deposited in the COCARIVE warehouse in Carmo de Minas, where they are classified, cut, processed by sieving and marketed on the specialty coffee market.
