BRÉSIL - MANTIQUEIRA DE MINAS - FAZENDA ENGENHO
Torréfaction : espresso
José Victor Bernardes and Maria Célia Chaib Sousa Bernardes own Fazenda do Engenho, an inheritance from Maria Célia’s family. It is located in the city of Carmo de Minas, MG. Coffee cultivation began on the property in the 1930s. At the end of the 80s, José Victor and Maria Célia married and José Vitor began running the farm. In the beginning of the 90s, José Vitor continued planting new fields with varieties Yellow Catuaí and Acaia at altitudes from 1100 to 1200 meters.
Shortly after the turn of the millennium, a new phase began in the region, characterized by improvements to the properties. Several technological advancements were implemented, such as: paved patios, dryers, washers, hullers, rest boxes, processing machinery... The reward for this pioneering spirit and the work for differentiating specialty coffee from mass production was awarded with the Mantiqueira de Minas Geographical Indication Seal, which guarantees the origin of coffee lots.
The lots are deposited at the COCARIVE warehouse in Carmo de Minas, where they are rated, cupped, processed by screen size and commercialized on the specialty coffee market.
